Interesting Facts: The Hope Diamond

One of the best things about being a freelance writer is all the wonderful new things you'll learn. Today I found this story on a diamond jewelry store called Primestyle.com.

The Curse of the Hope Diamond

The Hope Diamond is a large blue, perfect diamond. Legend claims that the Hope Diamond was cursed after being stolen from an idol of the Indian goddess Sita's head. Almost everyone who owns or touches the diamond has had something bad happen to them.

The Curse

Several centuries ago a man named Tavernier made a trip to India. He stole the diamond from the forehead (eye) of the Hindu goddesses. According to legend, Tayernier was torn apart by wild dogs. This was the first death attributed to the curse.

The diamond has exchanged many hands since then, including King Louis XIV. In 1949 Harry Winston, a New York jeweler, purchased the diamond. Winston had a plan to outsmart the curse. He repeatedly offered the diamond to raise money for charity. The rich and famous would pay to wear the diamond to balls. He donated the diamond to the Smithsonian Institution in 1958 where it became the focal point of their rare gem collection. Some people say that he donated the diamond to rid himself of the curse. No one will ever know.

You'll remember that I am looking for my 10th anniversary ring at online stores. I couldn't afford to pay 'brick and mortar' prices. This site had some very possible prospects. This site even has a testimonial, http://www.primestyle.com/testimonials.html site and some information to help me buy the best diamond in my price change.
