Failure, it is the decisive factor in most people's success. All success is built on a foundation of failure. In fact, a failure is never a finality, an ending, or a defeat unless we allow it to be. To fail implies quitting, ending a task.
However, if we do not end the task. If we refuse to bow our souls to convention and other people's standards, then are we capable of failing in the true sense of the word?
There should be another word added to the English language, barring the fact that it is already stuffed like a pig with redundant words and metaphors. This word should be used to express failure that is not a failure, but is the situations that eventual success is built on.
To say that a person can succeed without failure is a fallacy. The most successful people in the world leave a legacy littered with failures, missed opportunities, and false starts. With tongue in cheek, I can claim that words like freelance, WAHM, opportunity, and writer all imply a life full of failure in the hopes of success. But, that is not true. While freelancers, WAHM, and entrepreneurs do face a larger number of failures than the average person, they also venture into darker waters than most people, and tempt fate more often.
So, after reflecting on this, then I would have to say that the true English word for failure is 'couch potato'.
This still leaves me wondering what to call a failure that is not a failure, but a building block for success -
