Working at home is difficult. There are two levels of work at home professional. I have friends who are using old computers and making due with whatever they can find. I have other friends who buy the latest equipment, because they realize that it pays for itself in extra productivity.
Sharon has already purchased a dual processor laptop, and can now download an entire assignment from her home in Barbados to her client in England, in less time, and can process large graphics in 1/2 the time.
However, professionals do not buy their equipment from eBay or local stores. They buy from online stores. The selection is good, the prices are low, and you do not need to determine whether they are a 'safe' person to purchase from.

If you want to know whether hi-tech equipment is worth the investment, I feel that it is.
If you want to know whether you should buy it from a local office supply store, or ebay, the answer is no.
