When writers talk about target audiences, readers, and clients, we often forget that they are also people. The individuals that make up a culture are as diverse and unique as the cultures that span the globe, but we have some common links. We all smile. We all dance. We all sing. We all laugh. We all believe in a higher being, or choose not to believe. The fundamentals that make us a society are the threads that color the tapestry of life.
Non-fiction writers often overlook the basics of life. Jewelry, stories, or a single catholic bible can link generations across the globe in a way that education, social status, wealth, and location can rarely accomplish.
Next time you are writing, look beyond the message, beyond the ad-copy, and look at the unique attributes that make people individual – it will add life to your writing.
