Why Do Writers and Bloggers Ruin Their Chances to Make Money?

I've known Nikki Leigh for a long time. She left the marketing world and entered cyberspace more than a year ago. I've learned a lot about marketing from her, but one thing she couldn't answer for me was why people will invest months or years into writing a book, or blogs, or website and then sit back and refuse to promot it.

Promotion IS the work. The book, blog, website is only the product, the commodity to be sold. Writing a book and then not promoting it - is like building a home and not living in it.

Some where between the 1990s and now, writers have forgotten that writing is only 10% of the job. There is an old saying "writing is 10% of the job, editing is 90%" - but ask people to edit their work and they scream 'foul.'

Ask them to promote their careers and their product so they can make money - and the shock drives them into a comma.

I recently read an interview with a New Your Publishing house and it mirrored an oppinion in one of my SEO newsletters.

"There is only one elemet that separates the writers/bloggers who are making money from those who cry 'scam' and 'its not my fault' . . . Promotion.
