One of the hardest parts of the freelance writer's life is finding enough 'quality' sleep. Face it, the job is stressfull. Not only must a writer balance family life, and meet her family's demands, but they are always faced by clients who don't know what they really want until after a price is agreed upon and the writer 'thought' the project was finished. The last thing you want is to find 2 hours to sleep only to loose it because street noise keeps waking you up.
I have garbage bags pasted over my bedroom windows to keep out the light. I also started to use earplugs. It may sound extreme, but with everyone crying that they need a 30 hour day, why not just reduce the sleep needed by improving the quality of sleep?
A person who normall sleeps for 9 hours can get a good night's sleep in 7 if they use soft earplugs and keep the room dark. It is important to pick the right earplug. Don't buy dollar store plugs. Instead, get something comfortable.
