I often hear people say that writing is not any fun. As I embark on a three day, six hour chat, on editing novels, I despair to think that I am going to suck the life out of several novelist's inspiration.
Unfortunately, that is a part of writing. Freelance writers are forced to give up the Joy of Writing in exchange for paid bills and enough fuel for the car.
Writing can become as tedious as any other job. People who quit their day job with dreams of a 'better' life as a freelance writer are in for a big shock when the honeymoon is over.
At this moment, the real writers are separated from those who are infatuated with the idea of being a writer, but do not want to live the writer's life.
The dream of being a writer is poetic and romantic. However, reality is as shocking as believing you'll go to heaven, only to find things getting hot a few seconds after death.
However, hitting this place is a good thing. It changes your 'mindset' and inspires you to excellence. Survival is one of Maslow's 5 'needs', and feeding it is a way to remain emotionally healthy.
There are ways to bring the love of writing back into your world: work on a novel, write short stories, write poetry that will never be published, blog, participate at helium, etc..
These 'fun' ways of writing are medicine for the wounded creative spirit and balm to suffering hearts.
