Where did Father's Day come from?

I talked about Mother's Day, so I thought I should give some time to Father's Day.

History of Father's Day

Sonora Dodd, of Washington, thought of having a "father's day" while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. "Why not have a special day to honor her father?" Her father, William Smart, a Civil War veteran, was widowed when his wife died while giving birth to their sixth child. A single-father, Mr. Smart raised the newborn and his on a rural farm in eastern Washington state.

I am sure that Mr. Smart was not perfect. No one is, that makes it hard to buy for a father.

That is why I love online shopping. My father is past the sports equipment stage, and I don't want to buy him another electronic. This year I am going to send him something different, something fun, so I went looking for some unique fathers day gifts . I am going to create my own gift basket for him at www.gourmetgiftbaskets.com. They have the finest chocolates, nuts, wines, cheeses and fruits, and some very nice pre-filled gift baskets. But, I might do something my dad will really find cool - like a gift basket that is completely filled with different types of 'nuts' - get it? :)
