Fresh flowers are the crowning glory of the summer wedding. Their translucent shades and captivating aroma add a subtle elegance to the most lavish celebration, or they ad a touch of romance to an intimate engagement. The truth is, it is almost impossible to go wrong with flowers. Especially when using a good florist. They can create stunning centerpieces, bouquets, and decorations for any color scheme.
The most popular flowers for a summer wedding come from the lily, orchid, daisy, and dahlia families. These flowers lend a touch of sophistication to any gathering.
My bouquet was a lovely collection of calla lilies set against a rich canopy of green fern and white rose buds that draped to the floor. When someone stood directly in front of me, the lace in my dress framed the flowers. The effect was stunning. I chose Calla Lilies for their funnel-shaped, elegant flowers and long stems. The flower is not actually a flower at all, but an extension of the stem called a spathe. Calla lilies come in colors from white to orange to magenta. They are currently the most popular flowers for spring to June weddings.
If I had of married more recently, I would have chosen a Dendrobium Orchid. These delicate tropical flowers are matchless in their ability to incite feelings of royal grace. These are truly exquisite flowers for the most delicate arrangements. Their appeal comes from the fact that they work well when alone, for Brides who do not want heavy arrangements.
For a more traditional look, Dahlias offer bold colors that work well with late summer and fall weddings. Their full-bodied blooms make them perfect for Brides who want the illusion of cascading flowers.
For Brides who love flowers, but want something simpler, the answer is found in the pure and innocent Daisy. TheChrysanthemum* Daisy's spiny-bloomed cousin is also most readily available during the long, hot months of summer. This airy flower with narrow petals comes in a wide range of colors, and looks beautiful in bouquets, centerpieces, and decorations.
No traditional bouquet or boutonieres is complete without Baby's Breath. This flower lends a special touch to the early summer wedding. It is in full bloom in the early summer.
Brides today have an advantage we did not have ten years ago. They can buy from large online florists like dot flowers. Online shopping offers a much wider variety of flower arrangements and gift baskets at a much lower price than local stores. These stores offer the same customer service, and may even offer a better quality flower.
Wedding Tips
Do not skimp on the flowers in a wedding. There is nothing more delightful than placing bud vases in delightful corners, or giving mini bouquets to favored aunts and relatives.
Scattering flower petals across the table is not a new idea, but including a rich ferns under a sprig of orchids or daisies is a unique table decoration. This decoration is best for the 'family organized' wedding. Anyone can spread ferns and put a single flower on them, even an old uncle.
Roses
I found this blog from an online flower shop.
Blog: June is National Rose Month
This is a great blog to include in this post. Roses are the flowers of romance. No other flower has so much history or meaning attached to it. Over the centuries roses have come to mean different things. The trend of putting a meaning to roses reached its height in Victorian times. There were even dictionaries that allowed people to translate their bouquets.
A rose with a diamond ring tide to it with a silk ribbon is a promise. A box of roses sent by courier is an act of love. Red and white roses together symbolize unity. Pink and white roses say "I will always love you."
Here are some of the popular colors from Victorian times. Red - Passionate Love Yellow - Unfaithfulness Pale Pink - Youth and Femininity White - Keep My Secret Pink - Perfect Happiness Coral - I admire your accomplishments Leaf of a rose - You May Hope.
Today we have rose colors that our ancestors never dreamed of, but no matter what color is sent, they still say, "I am thinking about you."
