New York Lawyers can really step up and fight for human rights. Take the case when Simmons, Jannace & Stagg represented Nancy Burpee, a world class paralympic swimmer, in her attempt to participate in the 2004 Paralympic Games held in
The law firm represented Ms. Burpee on a pro bono basis. She was disqualified on a procedural technicality. Ms. Burpee wanted to be named to the Olympic Team. The firm started arbitration in her behalf. She lost, but has still continued her swim career and will compete in the World Championships in the coming year.
I like stories where someone steps up and helps someone who could not help themselves. My husband is disabled - but instead of help, lawyers tricked him into cutting his pension by 1/3. Of course, this was 20 years ago, and there were not firms like simmons jannace & stagg to help people. I just wanted to tell people to fight for their rights and to never give up hope. Even if you don't win, you'll be smarter, and confident that you did your best.
