A few of my writing groups have started talking about using blogs to create characters and come up with topics that would make good themes in books. If a character draws a readership, or if a topic draws a large number of replies, then it is a good ‘social’ hook. I think it would be a better idea to take an online course or distance education workshop to learn how to make good characters.
A magazine recently wrote an article confirming this. But, I am wondering if it is really true? I believe that this might work in theory, but I would hate to think that some of the conversations I take part in, are not real, but some writer working out the kinks in their characters.
Do you, would you, do this? Do you think this is an ethical use of the blogging forums? Suzanne James
We are writing an article for 'Novel Writer' Magazine on this topic. If you do this, we'd love to interview you for our June issue.
