Is a Work-at-Home Job or Home Based Business a REAL Job?

I have a viable business which offers employment to more than twenty people. However, I always run into business people, and even family, who do not feel that I work.

I have a friend who publishes a national bridal magazine, but the bank wouldn't lend her money to increase her distribution until her unemployed husband co-signed the loan.

I have another friend who has won the 'business person of the year award' in her city. She employees fifty people and generates more than one million in revenues a year. But, she needed her husband's signature on the office lease before she could expand her offices.

I also know a woman who makes more than $60 000 a year, but her husband wouldn't let her get a housekeeper because she was home anyway.

Is this a common problem out there? Is it just my circle of friends? Is this only a Canadian thing?
