When can You Call Yourself An Author?

When will you consider yourself a real writer:

1. When you receive pay?
2. When you sell to a national magazine?
3. When you have a novel contract and are published?
4. When you are working full time as a writer?
5. When you make X dollars a year?
6. When you are famous?
7. When you stop getting rejection letters?
8. When you finish a university writing course?

Everyone has a different rubric. Tell me what you think.

When can a writer call themselves a real, published, author?
