My First Publishing Credit

My first publishing credit was on 52 projects - a long time ago.

It was a tongue in cheek exercise in management techniques. I wrote another one that was more poignant about learning life's lessons by visiting grandparents, but that wasn't good enough for the book and eventually they removed all the old ones that never made the book.

My first publishing credit is still there, Project #90 and it is a good thing.

Everyone needs to start some where. I went on to be published at www.dabblingmum.com and a few other sites in those first years before I accepted the fact that I was a writer - but there is something about that first 'real' publishing credit.

As the third year anniversary of my writing comes around, I want to make other writers realize that they can become real writers in a very short time. I've known many writers who built a full time, profitable, career in less than 12 months - some 18. The only real difference between those who were working full time within six months and those who were working full time in 18 months is whether or not they took writing courses.

When I started, I invested in $1000 worth of writing courses - and it shows. You need to learn to write well - whether in a course - whether by trial and error. You will, eventually, then you will have a good writing career.

The one thing that makes writing different from any other career is the fact that there is only one way to fail - quitting.

So, when you feel down, slide over to 52 projects and read post #90. Correct the grammar. Improve the punctuation. Select better verbs. And then you'll feel better about yourself. After all, if I could get published then you can.
