How to be Successful at Online Teaching

I have taught children, teens, and more than 2000 adults. In this time I have learned one thing, 'the teacher's success is based on the teacher's attitude.'Teachers who believe they deserve respect, attention, and that their student's are their for them, will fail. Teachers who believe they are there to make the student's lives better, will succeed.

In most cases, a difficult student needs less than two hours of one-on-one help to get them 'back on track.' The average class has about five students who need this help. A smart teacher will not begrudge their students this time. It is far more productive to give 10 hours of one-on-one help, than to have 5 disruptive students bringing down the entire class.

TEENs

Today's teens are social. If you want to succeed teaching teens then you first must endure their 'social dance and ritual.' IF you do not, then you will never have their undivided attention. The entire year will be a struggle between you and them.

ADULTS

Never assume that adults are articulate. Never assume that they understand the consequences and implications of their actions. Grey does state that you must start teaching them based on their past knowledge. This is true, but you must first learn what their expectations are, and their past knowledge is, before you teach them anything new.

This is my experience in a summary. Hope it helps.
