How to prepare and promote your sample clips for freelance writing

There are tons of ways to get started. Here is what I did.

1. I picked a niche
2. I studied and researched that niche
3. I contacted all the smaller print magazines and asked the editors if I could write an article for them. I posted 2 or 3 samples on the web and suggested they take a look.

(Did you know that professional writers never write an article for a magazine then submit it? They write a proposal, and then send it to the editor. Editors and writers do 90% of their work on the phone, so if you want to become a freelance writer for magazines, you'd better get an internet phone with unlimited long distance.)

4. I collected my clips from the small magazines, and used them to pitch larger magazines.

It takes about 2 years to be making more than $30 000 a year - if you work full time
