Taking a Business to the Next Level

I've been doing a lot of writing for a guru type 'start a business' site. This one isn't targeted toward new businesses, instead it is aimed at businesses that are moving to the next level. The 'next step' can take 1 - 4 years, depending on the time invested.

Hosting is the first thing that must be upgraded. The next upgrade is always the shopping cart. Always choose one of the top providers of hosted shopping cart software. There needs to be a complete solution for merchants to sell online. They may not include the merchant account, but there should be statistics, varied buy options, and admin features that are easy to use. I tried a few of the cheap services, but they were so limited that I couldn't take advantage of seasonal selling, or they took way to long to change.

All ecommerce software is not created the same. Hosting is not the same. It is important to research all types of services before signing - do not let the price influence the decision. Sometimes, the more expensive shopping carts have the lowest 'abandoned shopping cart' rates.
