Writing Book Reviews

A lot of writers are starting to make money writing reviews. However, most of the reviews they are writing do not cover what is needed. A review must explain what the 'reader' can get from the book or product being reviewed. I included a book review I wrote to give an example of a good review.

The Dog In Action: For All Breeds

by McDowell Lyon's

Published by Howell Book House

The book, The Dog In Action, must become a foundation book in any dog breeding or showing kennel. This is the best book I have ever found on structure, gait, and selecting breeding stock. Excellent diagrams cover all breeds from German Shepherds and Greyhounds, to Terriers and Dachshunds. Well laid out pictures make it easy for any new breeder to understand the theories, and years of experience make it possible for top kennels to evaluate their stock.

The information in this book will answer a lot of show dog's owners questions as to why their dogs are not winning, and why the winners are. The balance of skeletal pictures, and flesh pictures, in movement, and standing still, make this a great first book for anyone.

Even though this book covers movement, at the end of the book any breeder will be able to effectively gave their dog's S.O.P.s, ranking the head, back, rear, front, feet, on the 10 scale. The only thing this book will not help with is heads, coat, show shine, and genetically inherited diseases. This book starts with basic skeletal structure, moves into movement, and ends with bites/dentures and a section explaining how to apply the information.

The thousands of dollars this will save breeders, and the time saved, breeding to the right males to produce litters with champions in them, will far outweigh the $50.00 this well bound, hardcover, 265 page costs.
