Christmas is Only Weeks Away

Freelance writers don’t get out much at Christmas time. Of course, if you have been following this blog for the last few years, you'll know that it is going to be more 'christmassy' as the weeks progress. I have a tendency to go over board on Christmas decorations. One type of Christmas FlowersI always have is poinsettias. I can have poinsettias even though I am allergic to flowers because the red part is not a flower, but leaves.

Christmas Flower Facts

The name Poinsettia is from Joel R. Poinsett, U.S. ambassador to Mexico, who introduced the plant to America in 1828.

Little Pepita, a poor girl from Mexico, did not have a gift for baby Jesus at the local Nativity scene. She bent picked a few grasses and leaves beside the road to make a flower bouquet. With tears in her eyes she entered the chapel and laid her gift by the crib, magically, the green grasses and leaves turned into, bright red star-shaped flowers.
