Why Are Writers Naive About Predators?

Why are new writers willing to believe every ad copy email, and every myth created to convince the general public that writers are a race of mystics? The one myth that causes me much consternation is the one that states ‘there is no solid rule for structure in novels. Good authors just feel it.’

Hogwash.

If this is true, then why can you pick up twenty recently released bestsellers from one genre and find a long list of similarities among them? What is thematic reading? Why do I teach a class on Mapping an Novel. What is a ‘blueprint of a novel.’ What is a story arc?

We publish 'Novel Writer' Magazine and would love to hear your stories about how writers are being scammed.

It is the same with writing scams. Writers will not take a proven pay per writing job that pays a royalty on page views, but they will take a job that promises $1500 for doing twenty hours work and they expect to be paid. Then they wonder why they became a victim.

If you are a good writer, then you'll write knowing the money will come.
