One of the most lucrative writing fields is travel writing. I am not a travel writer myself, but as a 'work at home' writer, I can't overlook this aspect of writing. Most new writers are not interested in travel writing. They prefer to sit behind a computer desk all the time.
However, I travel twice a year. So far I do not travel far, but it gives me enough experience to continue writing about travel, the hardships, and the disappointments. One of the biggest disappointments is paying for an expensive vacation and not hitting a hot spot.
The second problem is planning the wrong vacation. Take Caribbean vacations. It is easy to be caught in a second rate hotel, that charges as much as a 5 star, but offers poor service, no amenities, and no night life.
A new aspect of vacationing is to avoid hotels. Bahamas vacation rentals and
Cayman Islands vacation rentals are properties owned by management companies. These properties often exceed 5 star ratings, letting their members live like kings for a week. The best part, there are usually enough bedrooms to accommodate an entire party, reducing the price, and increasing the fun.
Many freelance writers live near places where they can rent one of these properties, and within one week create thousands of dollars worth of reviews - far more than the expense.
